Director
Vicki Perler is a Jewish educator and passionate advocate for young children. Vicki has been the Director of Early Childhood Education at Temple Beth-El of Great Neck since 1994. Under her direction, Temple Beth-El’s ECEC has become a model school for Jewish Early Childhood Education, visited and emulated by Jewish early childhood professionals.
Vicki is a nationally recognized leader in her field. She twice served as President of the National Jewish Early Childhood Network, and served as Treasurer of the NY Jewish Early Childhood Association. She is a Jewish Early Childhood Education Initiative (JECEI) grant recipient, who led her Reggio-inspired school to achieve National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation - the only synagogue preschool on Long Island to become accredited by NAEYC; and she is the co-author of “Standards for Jewish Nursery Schools of Greater Washington.” She often mentors and works with Jewish early childhood directors and their teachers to improve their schools.
Vicki began her career in early childhood education as a preschool teacher in the University of Maryland’s Project Growing Together. She was a kindergarten teacher in Maryland Public Schools, Music Director of Gaithersburg Hebrew Congregation’s Hebrew School, Director of the first Jewish infant toddler program in Maryland, Director of Young Child Services at the JCC of Greater Washington, and Director of Tranquillity Camp.
Vicki received her B.S. in Early Childhood Education from the University of Maryland, an M.S. in Early Childhood and Special Education from Adelphi University, and a postgraduate certificate in Educational Leadership and Administration from Long Island University and the NYS Department of Education. She is a past president of the Huntington Jewish Center in Huntington, NY.
Vicki is an accomplished piano player who brings music to her school and personally engages with all the classes and children. Vicki and her husband reside in Syosset, New York, where they are active in their synagogue and in the Schechter School of Long Island.
Educators
Our professional staff has been carefully selected for their preschool educational background, teaching experience and for their sensitivity to the individual needs of the young child. They provide a loving attitude and offer warmth and understanding as well as skillful guidance to each child.
Weekly enrichment activities are provided by music and creative movement specialists, the clergy, and/or the Director.
The staff is trained in First Aid, Medication Administration Training, and CPR annually. A psychologist, a speech/language specialist, and an occupational specialist provide training and advice to the educators and the parents.
